The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien If you look at those best books of all time lists from 20 years ago, you might notice that "The Lord of the Rings" series hardly rates a mention, after the movies came out, it's suddenly everyone's favorite. I think it's a bit like "A Brief History of Time", one of the best books nobody's ever read. I'm personally not all that impressed with the series. In my opinion, it's very well written dribble. It's ponderous and dull. I imagine those who read the book in a Multiplex on a big screen will be offended, as well as those who can think of nothing better than attending a Star Wars convention, but I guess the good thing about opinions is we're all entitled to our own.
