After killing an old vampire's enforcer in book 4, Raven Cursed, Jane once again finds herself at the centre of trouble. The old vampire has decided to exact his revenge on Jane and Leo and he's got the perfect weapon to do it with. A disease that leaves even the most powerful vampires weak and bleeding. Death's Rival is great urban fantasy and I wouldn't have had a single complaint if it ended at the natural conclusion to the story. I get a little annoyed when authors hit you with something in the last chapter that is designed to compel you to buy the next book. That combined with the disappearance of some of my favorite characters from the series has left me questioning whether I want to continue.
